2008-09 Grant Programs
PROFESSIONAL ARTIST FELLOWSHIPS honor Long Beach’s living artists for exemplary recent work. Eligible artists must reside in Long Beach and demonstrate an active exhibition and/or production record of at least 3 years. Eligible artistic disciplines include Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Literary Arts, Media Arts, Multidisciplinary or Interdisciplinary Arts, and Traditional/Folk Arts. Awards range from $1,000-$4,000. OPERATING GRANTS I & II provide unrestricted operating support to Long Beach-based, 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts and cultural organizations whose primary mission is to collect, preserve, present, and/or commission exemplary works of art. Eligible organizations must be headquartered in Long Beach, report annual operating revenue of at least $250,000, possess three consecutive years of Arts Council for Long Beach funding, as well as meet additional eligibility requirements (see guidelines for details). New applicants must submit a Letter of Intent to Apply by April 2, 2008. Awards are anticipated to start at $12,000. Application deadline is April 22, 2008.

NEIGHBORHOOD PROJECT GRANTS support projects that identify community needs, target audiences, and demonstrate the ability to meet needs through planning and program delivery. Worthy projects support community representation and cultural respect, encourage cultural diversity, and/or enhance underserved Long Beach communities. Any individual or group may apply; nonprofit status is NOT required; Long Beach residency is NOT required project must be open to the public (this includes school programs) and delivered within the City of Long Beach. Awards typically range from $1,000-$3,000. Application deadline is April 24, 2008.

COMMUNITY PROJECT GRANTS support projects that identify community needs, target audiences, and demonstrate the ability to meet needs through planning and program delivery. Worthy projects support community representation and cultural respect, encourage cultural diversity, and/or enhance underserved Long Beach communities. Applicants must be 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations demonstrating a minimum of two years of arts/cultural programming in Long Beach. New applicants must submit a Letter of Intent to Apply by April 2, 2008. Awards typically range from $2,000-$8,000. Application deadline is May 1, 2008.

Margaret McKinney Folk & Traditional Arts Fellowship honors one Long Beach-based artist or group for exemplary work. Applicants must reside or be based in Long Beach and be an active folk or traditional artist or group. One award ranging from $1,000 to $1,500 is expected to be granted.
